New Benghazi Poll Doesn’t Bode Well for Obama

A plurality believes that the Obama administration deliberately lied to the public about the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack and that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mishandled the matter, according to a recent poll.

The poll, conducted by YouGov, found 44 percent of the public thinks “the Obama administration deliberately misled the American people” when President Obama and other administration officials claimed it was prompted by an anti-Muslim YouTube video.

While some might think that the number is low, a quick look at the remaining percentages is revealing.

Another 30 percent do believe the administration provided information as it became available, while the remaining 25 percent were unsure.

Four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, were killed in the attack on Sept. 11, 2012.

In another question, a plurality of 46 percent believe Al Qaeda was behind the attack, even after a New York Times story challenged that that prevailing view.

The poll found that 40 percent disapproved of Clinton’s handling of the attack. This compounds bad news for the likely 2016 frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination after the book by former Defense Secretary Bob Gates says she told Obama she only opposed the 2007 military surge in Iraq to get votes in the 2008 Democratic contest.
